Chaffee had 20 students and 31 projects that qualified for State competition on May 13-14. JUNIOR HIGH AND HIGH SCHOOL BAND SPRING CONCERT -- The Spring Concert (Junior High Band and High School Band) will be on Wednesday, May 8, at 7:00 pm in the High School Gym.

I've started putting together the graduation presentation, and would like for students who have received any type of funding to attend a post secondary school or training facility to be recognized during graduation. Please reply to this email and/or drop off proof that you have received any kind of Scholarships and/or grants. The deadline for them to be added to the program is Monday, May 13. This includes offers from the university you plan to attend or scholarships you have received by completing any additional applications. If you were selected for any of the local scholarships I will add your name and scholarship to the program. DEADLINE 5/13/24

REMINDER -- CES 5TH GRADE FIELD TRIP IS WEDNESDAY, MAY 8 -- The 5th Grade Field Trip will be on Wednesday, May 8, at the Recreation Complex in Sikeston and at the YMCA. Information for Trip: ~ The bus will leave at 8:30 a.m. and return before dismissal at 3:00 p.m. ~ Students will visit the Recreation Complex in Sikeston during the morning. Appropriate clothing should be worn to play outside. Sunscreen should be provided or applied before coming to school. ~ In the afternoon, students will swim at the YMCA. Students should bring a towel and swimsuit. We recommend trying on last year’s swimsuit before our field trip to ensure it fits well. ~ Students can bring a lunch and snack from home, or a sack lunch will be provided. ~ No money is needed. ~ No cell phones permitted. ~ Chaperones are not needed, but donated snacks and bottled water are greatly appreciated.


REMINDER -- SENIOR FINALS AND SENIOR WALKOUT -- Senior Finals are: May 8 (Wednesday) - 4th, 5th, and 7th hours; May 9 (Thursday) - 2nd and 6th hours; May 10 (Friday) - 1st and 3rd hours. All Senior Chromebooks must be turned into the library on or before 3rd period on Friday, May 10. Seniors will have their Senior Walkout on May 10th after the Seniors get back from CTC at approximately 11:15 am.


JV BASEBALL GAME CANCELLED -- Today's (5/6/2024) JV baseball game scheduled against Saxony has been cancelled due to wet field conditions. There will not be a makeup date.


TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK -- Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6-10. Thank you Chaffee Elementary and Junior/Senior High School teachers for all that you do and for your commitment to our students, staff, and community!


STUDENT COUNCIL KINDNESS WEEK (MAY 6-9) -- StuCo will be sponsoring a Kindness Week (Hello Smiles Week) at the Jr/Sr High School the week of May 6-9. Schedule of activities (all activities will be before school every morning): Monday (May 6) - Sprinkle Kindness; Tuesday (May 7) - Kindness That Lasts; Wednesday (May 8) - Kindness Rocks; Thursday (May 9) - Kindness That Spreads. CONGRATULATIONS CHAFFEE TRACK AND FIELD AT THE CLASS 2 DISTRICT 1 MEET! Chaffee participated in the Class 2 District 1 Track and Field Meet on Saturday, May 4, at Scott City High School. The Top 4 in each event advanced to the Sectional Meet on Saturday, May 11, at Park Hills High School. Chaffee had 4 individual District Champions: CARLYANNE COSSOU - 100 meter hurdles (15.91); CARLYANNE COSSOU - triple jump (10.40 m/34' 1.5") (PR); AYNÉ HELD - javelin (38.86 m/127' 6"); BLAKE YARBRO - shot put (14.85 m/48' 8.75"). Chaffee also had 7 other Top 4 finishes: CARLYANNE COSSOU - 2nd in the high jump (1.45 m/4' 9") (PR); CARLYANNE COSSOU - 2nd in the 300 meter hurdles (50.30); SHELTON SIMMONS - 2nd in the 100 meters (11.44) (PR); AYNÉ HELD - 3rd in the discus (29.64 m/97' 3"); LOGAN HORTON - 4th in the 100 meters (11.82); MADISON POBST - 4th in the shot put (9.53 m/31' 3.25"); RILEY WILSON - 4th in the 200 meters (23.23) (PR). Congrats to all of our Track & Field athletes and Good Luck at Sectionals!

SCHOOL LUNCH HERO DAY IS MAY 3 -- Thank you to all of our School Lunch Heroes for all of their hard work and dedication in our Elementary and High School cafeterias. REMINDER – CHS HONORS BANQUET FOR ACADEMIC LETTER RECIPIENTS & HONOR STUDENTS IS MAY 2ND-- The CHS Honors Banquet is Thursday, May 2, at 6:30 pm in the Chaffee High School Activity Center. Invitations were mailed to all High School Honor Students and Academic Letter Recipients. Two complimentary tickets were included with the invitation to be used by parents, guardians, relatives, or guests. Please remember to bring your tickets to present at the door.

RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE AT THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ON MAY 1ST -- Chaffee Elementary is partnering with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive through the Future Blood Donor program on Wednesday, May 1st, at Chaffee Elementary School from 2:00-6:00 pm. Flyers were sent home with students. Your student will have the opportunity to show leadership and help save lives by recruiting blood donors for this upcoming blood drive. You can support your student, our school, and help save lives by donating blood, recruiting other donors and/or volunteering at the blood drive. Each student who recruits one presenting donor will receive a sport cinchpack with thermal pocket! REMINDER -- ELEMENTARY MAP TESTING WILL BE APRIL 30-MAY 3 FOR GRADES 3-6. Below are the dates and subjects that each grade level will be testing: April 30-May 3, 2024: 3rd grade English Language Arts and Math / April 30-May 3, 2024: 4th grade English Language Arts and Math / April 30-May 3, 2024: 5th grade English Language Arts, Math, and Science / April 30-May 3, 2024: 6th grade English Language Arts and Math. Here are just a few reminders for students for MAP testing: (1) Be at school EVERY day and arrive to school on time. (2) Get a good night’s sleep. (3) Eat breakfast. * Parents -- Please make sure you read the Parent Letter that Mrs. Cossou sent home regarding MAP testing. A copy of the letter can also be found on the CES website. Parents can access practice tests and tutorials by going to the MAP Grade-Level Assessment website (http://dese.mo.gov/college-career-readiness/assessment/grade-level) and clicking on Grade-Level Online Tools Training in the “Quick Links” box . No login or password is necessary to review practice tests or tutorials. Students who are safe, respectful, and responsible each day (with 0 checkmarks for misbehavior) will participate in a daily celebration snack and extra outdoor time. In addition, if you check your child’s grades online you may notice that there will not be as many grades posted during MAP testing.
