REMINDER -- CHAFFEE R-2 BELL TO BELL – NO CELL (Missouri Law – Effective August 2025) -- Starting with the 2025-2026 school year, we will follow Missouri’s new law (Senate Bill 68) prohibiting cell phones and other personal communication devices bell to bell. This means that students may not use personal communication devices during the school day. This is a state law that applies to all public schools in Missouri; not just an exception at Chaffee R-2. This will be discussed in more detail in our student handbooks. Devices include: cell phones, smart watches, ear buds/headphones, tablets, personal laptops, gaming devices, and any device capable of messaging, accessing the internet, taking photos, or recording audio/video. When and Where: No personal electronic devices may be used from the beginning bell to the last bell of the school day. This law applies to ALL areas of the school: Classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, gym, and restrooms. There are some exceptions to the Missouri law and new policy. Exceptions for the devices will be for students who have specific educational or health needs such as in Individualized Education Plans or 504 plans under Federal law. For more information, please contact the office of your child’s building. This law and policy is being implemented to promote academic focus, reduce distractions, and create a safer and more productive learning environment for all students. We appreciate your support as we work together to follow this new state requirement, and we thank you for helping us reinforce this expectation at home.
