CHAFFEE RED DEVIL HOMECOMING 2024 REMINDERS – This year’s Homecoming will be Monday, September 23rd through Saturday, September 28th culminating with the football game on Friday night against the Principia Panthers and the dance Saturday night from 7-10 pm. The student body will be engaged in many activities throughout the week. We would like to invite the community to take part in as many of these activities as possible. We encourage businesses to show their support by painting your storefront windows. The theme this year is “Devils Got the Beat”. Each day of school that week will be represented by a different song. On Tuesday September 24th, we will kick off Homecoming with an Ice Cream Social and the Mr. CHS Pageant. The Chili Cook-Off will take place on Wednesday, September 25th, followed by the Powder Puff Game. There will be a $1 donation entry for members throughout the community to watch. On Thursday, September 26th, we will host Wacky Olympics at 12:50 on the football field. This year we will host the Homecoming Parade on Friday, September 27th, at 1:45 pm. We will be using the same route as last year . We will begin in the high school football parking lot and start east on Yoakum to Main Street. The parade will then turn south on Main and continue to Elliott. At that time we will turn west onto Elliott and continue to Fifth Street next to Harmon Field. Heading north on Fifth, the parade will end at the high school activity center parking lot. We welcome any and all participants in this event. Our Grand Marshall of Homecoming this year is Jennifer Nolen, who will be recognized during halftime. Following the football game, we will bring our activities to a close with the coronation of the Homecoming Queen. Come out and support the Red Devils and Lady Devils during our annual Homecoming celebrations. JUNIOR HIGH FOOTBALL GAME TIME UPDATE FOR THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 19 – The Junior High Football game on Thursday, September 19, at Doniphan will now start at 5:30 p.m. The player bus will now leave at 2:45 p.m. with Junior High class release time at 2:25 p.m. The 6th Grade bus pickup at the Elementary will be at 2:20 p.m. for the CES / JH Boys Football players.

Lady Devils Softball Update for Tuesday, September 17 -- The Lady Devils Softball game with Twin Rivers on Tuesday, September 17, will be played at Chaffee now due to their wet field conditions. Twin Rivers will still be the home team. ** Also, Chaffee was selected as the host school for Softball Districts! The District Softball Tournament dates have not been selected yet but look for those dates in the near future. The window for Softball Districts will be October 17th through the 23rd.

HAT DAY AT JR/SR HIGH - September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. FBLA is hosting Hat Days each Friday this month to raise money for a child who is fighting cancer.
The next hat day will be Friday, September 13. For $1.00, students can wear their favorite hat. FBLA members will be at each door with stickers to show you have paid. BETA CLUB MEETING - Beta Club will have its first 7-12 grade club meeting after school on Friday, September 13, starting at 3:00 p.m. in the High School Activity Center. MISSOURI EMERGENCY PERSONNEL APPRECIATION DAY AND EMERGENCY SERVICES DAY (SEPTEMBER 11) - Emergency Personnel Appreciation Day is September 11th. This is a day set apart for acknowledging, with special gratitude and profound respect, all emergency personnel. Thank you to our local police, firefighters, ambulance personnel, and emergency dispatchers who keep our schools and community safe! PATRIOT DAY – NATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE AND REMEMBRANCE 9/11 – Today, we honor the memories of those lives lost, the bravery shown, and the unity that followed.

JON RODGERS, CHS SCIENCE TEACHER, COMPLETES NATIONAL SCIENCE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM -- An elite group of hand-selected science educators from across the country recently culminated their year-long leadership program at Bayer Crop Science in Chesterfield – including Jon Rodgers of Chaffee R-2 School District. Nourish the Future is a national STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) initiative connecting students to modern agriculture. Its mission is to help teachers inspire their students to learn science, solve problems, and see the possibilities of careers in agriculture. Rodgers was selected as one of 38 educators to participate in the Teacher Leader Community program from Nourish the Future. Industry partners like the United Soybean Board and the National Corn Growers Association fund the program to help farmers educate the public on modern farming and the science behind their practices. The culminating Capstone Conference event in the St. Louis area included guided tours, curriculum activities, and an expert panel discussion. Attendees engaged with Bayer representatives and learned more about their initiatives in education and innovation. Director of Education Gary Abud, Jr. summed up the importance of connecting the agriculture industry to the classroom: “effective STEM teaching requires real-world context, which students and teachers find accessible in agriculture.” Congrats Mr. Rodgers!
